Hecate How Des your Garden Grow?

Summer is here, we just celebrated summer solstice, and for some of you Yule, so we better get ready for the next turn of the wheel which is Lammas/Lughnasadh, and for some of you, Imbolc (Candlemas). Keep checking in on silvermoon coven since we are going to give some great ideas on the what, how, and when to celebrate it.
We are planning to give a cyber trophy to our master poster (more info under the section of news)

This week’s Medal for the poster master of silver moon coven is ………………

HEKA!!!!!!!!

Well since we still have some time left before Lugnassadh we should use the summer season to our advantage. Here is a spell I personally love.
~ Dandelion wishing ~

Summer is the time for those happy little dandelions and the wishes they bring to those that believe. Take a walk and appreciate all the dandelions you see. Allow their brightness to fill you with joy and ask what would make you really happy. If you could have one wish, what would it be? Decide on your wish and find a dandelion in fuzz. Ask permission, then pick it with a prayer of thanks. Hold the dandelion gently and state your wish out loud. Use all your senses to make the wish very real. Then blow the wish out into the dandelion fuzz and watch as it is carried off into the air.

A little more on dandelions and their patron goddess Hecate.
The dandelions powers: Divination wishes, calling spirits,
Element: Air
Planet: Jupiter
Gender: masculine
Magical uses: The root when dried, roasted and ground like coffee is use to make tea. This infusion will promote psychic powers. And this same tea steaming and placed beside the bed will call spirits.
(Cunningham’s encyclopedia of magical herbs. Pages 99-100)
Here is a great link for a wonderful dandelion syrup. http://www.allfreecrafts.com/giftinajar/dandelion_syrup.shtml

Hecate was the goddess of magic, witchcraft, the night, moon, ghosts and necromancy. She was the only child of the Titanes Perses and Asteria from whom she received her power over heaven, earth, and sea.
Hekate assisted Demeter in her search for Persephone, guiding her through the night with flaming torches. After the mother-daughter reunion became she Persephone's minister and companion in Haides.
Two metamorphosis myths describe the origins of her animal familiars: the black she-dog and the polecat (a mustelid house pet kept to hunt vermin). The bitch was originally the Trojan Queen Hekabe, who leapt into the sea after the fall of Troy and was transformed by the goddess into her familiar. The polecat was originally the witch Gale who was transformed into the beast to punish her for her incontinence. Other say it was Galinthias, the nurse of Alkmene, transformed by the angry Eileithyia, but received by Hekate as her animal.
Hekate was usually depicted in Greek vase painting as a woman holding twin torches. Sometimes she was dressed in a knee-length maiden's skirt and hunting boots, much like Artemis. In statuary Hekate was often depicted in triple form as a goddess of crossroads.
Hekate was identified with a number of other goddesses, including Artemis and Selene (Moon), the Arkadian Despoine, the sea-goddess Krataeis, the goddess of the Taurian Khersonese (of Skythia), the Kolkhian Perseis, and Argive Iphigeneia, the Thracian goddesses Bendis and Kotys, Euboian Maira (the dog-star), Eleusinian Daeira and the Boiotian Nymphe Herkyna.

Gods of Love and Marriage

September 12, 2008 by silvermoon

Aphrodite is the Great Olympian goddess of love, beauty and passion. She rules over every form of love such as friendship, lust, marriage and sex. She is a very beautiful and shapely goddess who either wears nothing or something very scandalous. She was born of the sea-foam from the castration of Ouranus and also rules gardens and domesticated animals.
Peithô is the Oceanid goddess of persuasion and seductive words. She is the constant companion of Aphrodite and was her nurse when she was born from the sea-foam. Her symbols are the dove and a ball of binding twine.
Eros is the son of Aphrodite and one of the Erotes who are Aphrodite’s constant companions. He brings warm feelings unexpectedly with his love tipped arrows.
Himeros is the twin of Eros and was born at the birth of his mother. He is always with his brother and the other Erotes. He is the god of sexual desire.
Anteros is the god of unrequited love. He is one of the Erotes and is armed with arrows of lead.
Pathos is the god of sexual longing and one of the Erotes.
Hêdylogos is the god of sweet talk and one of the Erotes.
Hera is the Great Olympian goddess of marriage. She is the Queen of Heaven and bride to Zeus. She is very powerful and even able to put her husband in his place. She is often pictured as a jealous and vengeful goddess but her emotions are much deeper than that. Her cult in the Mediterranean was formed hundreds of years before her husband’s and she is considered a major aspect of the Great Goddess.
The Graces are goddesses of beauty, grace, and favors. There are three main Graces. Their names are Aglaia, goddess of beauty and splendor, Euphrosyne, goddess of good cheer and merriment, and Thalia, goddess of banquets and festivities. This group of goddesses were attendants to Aphrodite and Hera. They are pictured together dancing and are all very beautiful
The Younger Graces are goddesses like the elder Graces but rule various other aspects of life. They consist of Eupheme goddess of acclaim, Euthenia goddess of prosperity, Eukleia goddess of good repute, and Philophrosyne goddess of welcome.
Eros (Elder) is the primordial god of sexual desire and procreation. He was one of the first deities to emerge at the creation of the universe. He was the driving force of love to promote creation.

Gods of War and the Like

September 12, 2008 by silvermoon

Alexiares is a son of Heracles. His name means “He who wards off war” and can be petitioned to do such a task as well as protect one from unnecessary conflict. He is pictured as a muscular but strong willed god who has gentleness about him.
Anicetus is the brother of Alexiares. His name means “the unconquerable one.” He is a very good deity to ask for protection and strength. He is much like his brother but does not have the air of gentleness around him.
Ares is the supreme god of war. He is the son of Hera and Zeus. He is one of the most bloodthirsty gods on Olympus. He never backs down from a challenge, and can be petitioned for victory in contests, courage, and strength. Keep an offering ready however, Ares loves gifts and almost needs them to perform tasks. He is pictured either in full armor or nude with only a spear.
Eris is the twin sister to Ares and is the goddess of chaos and havoc. Her thirst for blood is even more insatiable than her brother’s. She often remains on the deserted battle-fields marveling in the havoc that commenced. Eris also indirectly started the Trojan war by throwing a golden apple among the goddesses which read “to the fairest.” Three different goddesses fought over the apple and caused the events that lead to the Trojan war.
Deimus is a son of Ares and Aphrodite. He is the god of dread and terror. He is depicted riding in his fathers chariot, which shows his place on the battle-field was important.
Enyo is a goddess of war and a companion of Ares. She is the mother of Enyalios, and can be petitioned for courage with a more feminine air than with Ares.
Enyalios is a war god, and is also a son of Ares. He is almost exactly like ares but a little less blood-thirsty.
Athena is the goddess of war and wisdom. She was born fully grown out of Zeus’ head after he devoured her mother Metis. Athena is also the patron of craftsmen and of cities. She is pictured in armor with a crescent plume on her head.
Atlas is the titan god of daring and courage. He lead the Titans in the war against Zeus and after the battle he was sentenced to holding up the sky as punishment. He is pictured naked and very muscular fropm holding the heavens up and can be asked for endurance and strength.
Pallas is the titan of warcraft. He fathered Nike, Bia, Zelos, and Kratus. He can be petitioned for wisdom on the battle-field as well as strategy.
Bia is the titaness of force. She sided with Zeus in the great war, therefore she retained her powers. She and her siblings Nike, Kratos and Zelos are the winged attendants of Zeus’ throne.
Kratus is the titan of strength. He is a sibling to Nike, Bia, and Zelos.
Nike is the titan of victory. She is Zeus’ constant companion and is a winged deity.
Zelos is the titan of rivalry and competition. Like his siblings he is winged and an attendant of Zeus.

The Charge of the Goddess
By Doreen Valiente
Now listen to the words of the Great Mother,
who was of old also called among men Artemis, Astarte, Athene, Dione, Melusine, Aphrodite, Cerridwen, Dana, Arianrhod, Isis, Bride, and by many other names. At her altars, the youth of Lacedaemon in Sparta made due sacrifice.

Whenever ye have need of any thing,
once in the month,
and better it be when the moon is full,
then shall ye assemble in some secret place, and adore the spirit of me,
who am Queen of all witches.

There shall ye assemble, ye who are fain to learn all sorcery,
yet have not won its deepest secrets;
to these will I teach things that are as yet unknown.

And ye shall be free from slavery;
and as a sign that ye be really free,
ye shall be naked in your rites;
and ye shall dance, sing, feast, make music and love, all in my praise.
For mine is the ecstasy of the spirit,
and mine also is joy on earth;
for my law is love unto all beings.

Keep pure your highest ideal;
strive ever towards it, let naught stop you or turn you aside;
for mine is the secret door which opens upon the land of youth,
and mine is the cup of wine of life,
and the cauldron of Cerridwen,
which is the Holy Grail of immortality.

I am the gracious Goddess,
who gives the gift of joy unto the heart of man.
Upon earth, I give the knowledge of the spirit eternal;
and beyond death, I give peace, and freedom,
and reunion with those who have gone before.

Nor do I demand sacrifice;
for behold, I am the Mother of all living,
and my love is poured out upon the earth.

Hear ye the words of the Star Goddess;
she in the dust of whose feet are the hosts of heaven,
whose body encircles the universe.

I who am the beauty
of the green earth and the white moon upon
the mysteries of the waters,
I call upon your soul to arise and come unto me.

For I am the soul of nature
that gives life to the universe.
From me all things proceed and unto me
they must return.
Let My worship be in the
heart that rejoices, for behold,
all acts of love and pleasure
are My rituals.

Let there be beauty and strength,
power and compassion,
honor and humility,
mirth and reverence within you.
And you who seek to know me,
know that the seeking and yearning
will avail you not,
unless you know the Mystery:
for if that which you seek,
you find not within yourself,
you will never find it without.

For behold,
I have been with you from the beginning,
and I am that which is attained
at the end of desire.

Gods of Healing

September 7, 2008 by silvermoon

Apollo is the Olympian god who rules over healing and health in general. He can be petitioned for healing, but if offended or displeased he can send illness with a shot from his heavenly bow. He is pictured as a very handsome and muscular god clad in a tunic that shows off his beauty. He often carries his favorite instrument the lyre, as he is also a god of music.
Asclepius is the son of Apollo and the god of medicine. In ancient times people would sleep in his temples and they would awake cured of all illness. Throughout time he was even able to bring the dead back to life which angered Hades. He in turn petitioned to Zeus and he struck him with a thunderbolt which killed him. His father was sorrowed at his death and raised him to the status of a god. He is pictured in the robes of a scholar and holding a caduceus.
Epione is the goddess of soothing and peaceful rest. She is the wife of Asclepius and mother to his children. She is pictured in traditional clothing. She is very fair and has a soothing presence.
Akeso is the goddess of healing wounds, and curing illness. She helps with the process rather than the cure itself. She is also a daughter of Asclepius. She is pictured with her family, which shows the interdependence of these gods on each other as a complete process.
Aegle is the goddess of radiant health and can be petitioned to send healing energy to a person. She is another daughter of Asclepius. She is a very fair and beautiful maiden with beautiful eyes. She does not flaunt her beauty however.
Iaso is the goddess of cures, remedies and recovery. She is a daughter of Asclepius, and can be petitioned to insure a sound and thorough recovery from illnesses and wounds. She is pictured holding medical tools due to the fact that she was her father’s chief attendant.
Panacea is the goddess of miraculous cures and the knowledge of medicine. It is said that she inherited great power from her father Asclepius and is able to cure any disease. She is a benevolent goddess and is happy to help out her followers. She holds the caduceus just like her father.
Telesphoros is the only son of Asclepius and is the god of convalescence, and can be petitioned to ensure a stable recovery and restoration of full health. He is pictured as a young god with a Phrygian cap on and a scroll in his hands.
Paeon is the physician of the gods. He would heal their wounds when they were injured in battle. He is dressed in a doctor’s robe and always has his tools with him.
Soteria is the goddess of safety, cures, peace and deliverance. She can be petitioned for protection while one is recovering from an illness or while one is still ill. She is shown as a powerful woman who still remains in control of herself and appears calm yet strong.

Charge of the Crone

September 2, 2008 by silvermoon

I am the Queen of Magick and the dark of the Moon,
hidden in the deepest night.
I am the mystery of the Otherworlds
and the fear that coils about your heart in the times of your trials.
I am the soul of nature that gives form to the universe;
it is I who awaits you at the end of the spiral dance.
Most ancient among gods and mortals,
let my worship be within the heart that has truly tasted life,
for behold all acts of magick and art are my pleasure
and my greatest ritual is love itself.
Therefore let there be beauty in your strength,
compassion in your wrath,
power in your humility,
and discipline balanced through mirth and reverence.

You who seek to remove my veil and behold my true face,
know that all your questing and efforts are for nothing,
and all your lust and desires shall avail you not at all.
For unless you know my mystery,
look wherever you will,
it will elude you,
for it is within you and nowhere else.
For behold, I have ever been with you,
from the very beginning,
the comforting hand that nurtured you in the dawn of life,
and the loving embrace that awaits you at the end of each life,
for I am that which is attained at the end of the dance,
and I am the womb of new beginnings,
as yet unimagined and unknown.

Charge of the Horned God

September 2, 2008 by silvermoon

Listen to the words of the Horned God, the Guardian of all
things wild and free, and Keeper of the Gates of Death, whose Call all must answer:

I am the fire within your heart...
The yearning of your Soul.
I am the Hunter of Knowledge
and the Seeker of the Holy Quest
I - who stand in the darkness of light
am He whom you have called Death.
I - the Consort and Mate of Her we adore,
call forth to thee.
Heed my call beloved ones,
come unto me and learn the secrets of death and peace.
I am the corn at harvest
and the fruit on the trees.
I am He who leads you home.
Scourge and Flame,
Blade and Blood -
these are mine and gifts to thee.

Call unto me in the forest wild
and on hilltop bare
and seek me in the Darkness Bright.
I - who have been called;
Pan,
Herne,
Osiris ,
and Hades,
speak to thee in thy search.
Come dance and sing;
come live and smile,
for behold:
this is my worship.
You are my children and I am thy Father.
On swift night wings
it is I who lay you at the Mother's feet
to be reborn and to return again.
Thou who thinks to seek me,
know that I am the untamed wind,
the fury of storm and passion in your Soul.
Seek me with pride and humility,
but seek me best with love and strength.
For this is my path,
and I love not the weak and fearful.
Hear my call on long Winter nights
and we shall stand together guarding Her Earth
as She sleeps.

Charge of the Star Goddess

September 2, 2008 by silvermoon

Hear the words of the Star Goddess, The dust of whose feet
Are the hosts of the Heavens,
And whose body encircles the universe.
"I who am the beauty of the Green Earth,
And the White Moon among the Stars,
and the Mystery of the Waters,
I call upon your soul to arise and come to Me.
For I am the Soul of Nature
That gives life to the Universe.
From Me all things proceed
And to Me all things must return.
Beloved of the Gods and Men,
Whose innermost Divine Self
Shall be enfolded in the rapture of the Infinite.
Let My worship be in the heart that rejoices,
for behold!
All acts of love and pleasure are My rituals.
Let there be beauty and strength,
Power and compassion, honor and humility,
Mirth and reverence within you all.
And you who wish to seek Me,
Know that your seeking and yearning
Gains you nothing until you know the Mystery -
That if that which you seek,
You do not find within yourself
You will never find it without.
For behold!
I have been with you from the Beginning,
and I am that which is attained at the End of Desire."
These are the words of the Star Goddess.

Charge of the Dark God

September 2, 2008 by silvermoon

Listen to the words of the Dark God, who was of old
called Acheron, Chamer, Anubis, Hades, Mors, Hoder,
and by many other names.
I am the shadow in the bright day, I am the reminder
of mortality at the height of living. I am the
neverending veil of Night where the Star Goddess
dances. I am the Death that must be so that Life may
continue, for behold, Life is immortal because the
living must die.
I am the strength that protects, that limits. I am the
power that says No, No Further, and That Is Enough. I
am the things that may not be spoken of, and I am the
laughter at the edge of Death.
Come with me into the warm enfolding dark, feel my
caresses in the hands, in the mouth, in the body of
one you love, and be transformed.
Gather in the moonless night and speak in unknown
tongues. The Dark Mother and I will listen. Sing to us
and cry out and the Power will be yours to unfold.
Blow me a kiss when the sky is dark, and I will smile,
but no kiss returns, for my kiss is the final one for
all mortal flesh.

Charge of te Dark Goddess

September 2, 2008 by silvermoon

The Dark Goddess speaks to us,
through the mouths of Lilith, Kali, Tiamet, Hecate,
Nix, the Black Madonna, Nemesis and Morgaine.

I am the Darkness behind and beneath the shadows.
I am the absence of air that awaits at the bottom of every breath.
I am the Ending before Life begins again,
the Decay that fertilizes the Living.
I am the Bottomless Pit,
the never-ending struggle to reclaim that which is denied.
I am the Key that unlocks every Door.
I am the Glory of Discovery,
for I am that which is hidden, secluded and forbidden.

Come to me at the Dark Moon and see that which can not be seen,
face the terror that is yours alone.
Swim to me through the blackest oceans
to the center of your greatest fears--
the Dark God and I will keep you safe.
Scream to us in terror, and yours will be the Power to Forbear.
Think of me when you feel pleasure, and I will intensify it,
until the time when I may have the greatest pleasure
of meeting you at the Crossroads Between the Worlds.

Gharge of the God

September 2, 2008 by silvermoon

I am the Cycle of the Wheel of the Year that matches the cycle of life on Earth. I am the Bright Child, the Oak Leaf Crowned King of Yule; I am the Greenman of Spring, the Holly Leaf Crowned King at the marriage feast of Litha; I am the Stag-Antlered Hunter, leading the Rade that sweeps through the storm-tossed skies. I am the Goat-Hoarned Lord of Shadows, offering rest and renewal to spirits in passage through my Lady the Crone; I am the Youth who dances with the maiden, The Father who embraces The Mother, and I am the Son of the Mother. Honor me through the seasons of the ytear, as I show the way, for I am the Spirit of nature free and untamed, and by my hand are ye led through the Great Mystery unto thy rebirth.

Charge of the Goddess

September 2, 2008 by silvermoon

Great Goddess, I call upon You by all Your names, known and unknown. Be here within this sacred circle that I might feel your power and love. Hear my words, all you creatures of the world. The Goddess is the Great Mother of All! I am never alone or abandoned.
She hears every secret longing in my heart, sees every step I take along my life's path. She is everywhere, in everything. Nothing and no one exists without Her. The Goddess is the beauty of this earth and everything on it. She reflects herself in the glowing moon, the brilliant sun, and every star in the heavens. Nothing is born without her plan and power, and all things return to her at death. Although the Goddess is the gatherer Crone. She is also the Maiden of Desire. All acts of love and joy and pleasure are rituals in Her eyes.
I cast my circle at each Full Moon in accordance with Her ancient worship that I may honor Her and ask for what I need. I follow her words that say I must value my freedom and strive for the highest of ideals, without being hindered or turned aaside. For if I do not learn to value myself, others may lead me into slavery.
The Goddess is the gateway to the ancient Inner Mysteries. Her secretteachings lead me through the spiritual labrynth to the Sacred Center. All who seek her must understand her sacred words.
"All your seeking and yearning will avail you nothing, unless you know the Mystery: For if what you seek you find not within, you will not find without."
For behold the Goddess has been with us from the beginning, and She will gather us to her breast at the end of all things.
